A red code bracket symbol on a purple background

The AI assistant that works in almost every editor. Since June it bills by AI credits, and that changes how you should pick a plan.

Pros

  • Works in more editors than any other tool we cover
  • Completions and Next Edit suggestions don't use credits

Cons

  • Usage-based billing makes monthly cost harder to predict for heavy agent use
  • No fallback to a cheaper model when credits run out

Google's assistant comes bundled with storage and other Google services. The value depends on how much of that bundle you'd use anyway.

Pros

  • A generous free plan that includes Deep Research and image generation
  • The cheapest paid AI plan we cover ($4.99)

Cons

  • Features and limits vary by region
  • Plan names and contents change often

The broadest AI assistant you can buy, with a coding agent included. The plan you pick decides which models you actually get.

Pros

  • The widest feature set of any AI assistant we cover
  • A real coding agent (Codex) included from the $20 plan

Cons

  • Go "may include ads"
  • Model access differs a lot by plan: Plus doesn't get the top GPT-6 Pro model in chat

Claude is a broad AI assistant with a serious coding tool built in. The plan you pick depends on how hard you'll push the usage limits.

Pros

  • Available on web, desktop (macOS, Windows) and mobile (iOS, Android)
  • Projects, memory and web search for ongoing work

Cons

  • Usage limits reset on a five-hour window, and paid plans add weekly caps
  • Chat and Claude Code share one usage pool

Both come bundled with a $20 assistant plan. The better question is which assistant you'd use anyway.
