X Subscription Explained: Cursor, Grok and X in One Plan

One bill now covers Grok, Cursor and X Premium. The catch for developers is how Claude and GPT models get billed.

On October 12, 2026, xAI announced The X Subscription, a single plan that combines Grok, Grok Bot, Cursor and X Premium features (xAI). Cursor’s pricing page now shows the bundle’s tiers. Here’s what it includes and what changes for developers.

What’s in the bundle

According to xAI’s announcement, the plan combines four products:

  • Grok: chat, voice, and image and video generation
  • Grok Bot: AI teammates for getting work done
  • Cursor: local and cloud coding agents
  • X Premium features: a checkmark, creator tools and fewer ads, with higher tiers removing timeline ads

Grok and Cursor draw from one shared weekly usage pool (Cursor help).

Prices

Plan Price Notes Source
Free $0 Daily Grok access and a starter Cursor allowance x.ai
Plus $8/month Only Grok models in Cursor cursor.com/pricing
Premium $30/month 4x Plus usage. Cloud agents, code review, third-party models at API list price cursor.com/pricing
Super $100/month 15x Plus usage cursor.com/pricing
Ultra $200/month 50x Plus usage cursor.com/pricing

xAI says Premium includes benefits that previously cost $90 a month combined across SuperGrok, Cursor Pro and X Premium+ (xAI). Team seats for Premium, Super and Ultra are priced the same as the individual plans.

What costs extra: Claude, GPT and Gemini

This is the part developers should read twice. On the new plans, third-party models such as Claude, GPT and Gemini aren’t included in the usage pool. On Premium and above, they’re billed at API list price from prepaid credit. Free and Plus don’t include them at all (Cursor docs).

If you mostly use Claude or GPT models inside Cursor, your real monthly cost depends on how much you use them, on top of the plan price.

If you already pay for Cursor, SuperGrok or X Premium

  • Switching is optional. Cursor says your current plan, price and features continue unless you change or cancel (Cursor help).
  • Legacy plans keep working. Cursor’s docs list Pro as a legacy plan that “keeps working as it is” (Cursor docs).
  • Switching is permanent. Once you switch, it “can’t be undone.” Your old plan is cancelled with a prorated refund, and a new billing cycle starts that day.
  • App Store users: if you pay through Apple, you have to cancel in your iPhone or iPad settings, or Apple keeps billing you.

Who should switch, and who should wait

Consider switching if:

  • you already pay for Grok or X Premium and also use Cursor
  • you’re happy coding mostly with Grok models

Wait if:

  • you rely on Claude or GPT models in Cursor and don’t want to manage prepaid API credit
  • you’re on a legacy Cursor plan that works for you. There’s no deadline to switch yet.

Our take

The bundle is a good deal if you already use X and Grok. For developers who rely on Claude or GPT inside Cursor, it's less simple: those models now come out of prepaid credit at API prices. Check what you actually used last month before you pick a tier.

What we still don’t know

  • Whether legacy Cursor plans will eventually be retired. xAI and Cursor haven’t announced a date.
  • Whether xAI owns Cursor. The announcement and Cursor’s pages describe a combined subscription, not an acquisition, so we don’t claim one.

We’ll update this article as details change.
