Apple’s first foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo, went on sale on Friday, October 23, 2026. It starts at $1,999. That’s $800 more than an iPhone 18 Pro, so the real question isn’t “is it cool?” (it is). It’s “what do I get for the extra $800?”
We went through Apple’s announcement and spec pages so you don’t have to. Here’s the short version.

Two things stood out to us. First, the battery numbers are strong for a foldable. Apple claims more video time on the outer screen than the iPhone 18 Pro’s 36 hours. Battery has been the weak spot of folding phones, so that’s the claim we most want to see real owners confirm. Second, Apple put the Pro chip in it, so this isn’t a “fashion” phone with cheaper internals.
iPhone Duo vs iPhone 18 Pro: what the extra $800 buys
A bigger screen when you need it. Reading, video, spreadsheets and two apps side by side are what a 7.6-inch screen is for.
But one fewer camera. The 18 Pro has a three-camera Pro system with a variable-aperture main camera; the Duo has two cameras.
And it’s a first-generation product. Hinges, creases and repair costs are the things to watch on any first foldable.
Who should buy it, and who should wait
Buy it if you read or work on your phone a lot, you want one device instead of a phone plus a tablet, and $2,000 is comfortable for you.
Wait if you’re mainly buying for the camera (the 18 Pro is the better camera phone), if you need a physical SIM, or if you’d rather let the first owners find the problems.
Skip it if you just need a good iPhone. An iPhone 17 at $899 does most things very well. We compare every current model in Which iPhone should you buy right now?
